Stenograf for Android
Record, transcribe and translate conversations on your phone. A desktop computer is optional; speech processing happens on the phone.
1. Install and prepare the models
Install Stenograf from Google Play on Android 10 or later. On first launch, choose a model download source and download the speech models. The initial downloads total approximately 1.3 GB; leave additional space for recordings.
Allow microphone access when Android asks. Recording and transcription work offline once the speech models are ready. Translation languages download separately before you use them offline.
2. Record and read
Tap Record and speak near the phone microphone. Follow the transcript as people speak, then stop when you are done. Open Records to find the saved conversation with speaker labels and timestamps.
Manage familiar voices in Settings → Voice profiles. Stenograf uses a saved name when the voice match is clear. Android records the microphone; desktop call recording uses the separate Mac or Windows app.
3. Translate a conversation
Tap Translate and choose a source and target language. Spoken phrases can be translated into English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Russian. With connected headphones and a supported offline voice, you can hear the translation privately. Otherwise, read the translated text on the phone.
Translation uses Google ML Kit on the device. Its models download from Google, and the SDK sends usage and performance metrics to Google. Conversation audio, transcripts and translated text are not sent. Review the disclosure in the translation setup screen.
4. Find and save your records
Search in Records and filter recordings or translations. Open a transcript and choose Save as Markdown or Save audioto write a copy to a folder you select. Manage audio retention in Settings → Storage; transcripts remain available after audio cleanup.
5. Optional desktop pairing
Open Settings → Computer to pair with Stenograf on desktop. Finished phone recordings can then be sent to that computer over your local network. You can record, transcribe and translate without pairing.
Optional voice controls: Beta Assistant
Tap Start Assistant to enable the experimental English commandsHey Soniqo, start recording and Hey Soniqo, stop recording while Stenograf is open. Assistant stays off until you start it. Exiting Assistant or leaving the app stops listening. Recognition can miss a command, so check the recording state.
